I'm currently reading a paper about normal heroism and queering up the schoolboy story by Pugh and Wallace (see Reading List at right). I am three pages in and I'm sick of the word 'normative' and it's derivations. I'm thinking it's an American word. I've never come across it before reading all these HP articles, most of which were written in the US. It's certainly not a term used in scientific journals.
Sigh.
Three pages down, sixteen to go. I may keep a tally. Wanna make bets? To give you an idea, page three has ten references to 'normative' or 'normatizing' and so far it's the worst page. My bet is for around 55. Let's see how close I get...
ETA: There were 63. I wasn't far off. I'll review it soon.
